The question “how much does fulfillment cost” looks simple, but the answer becomes evasive the moment you start calling suppliers. Most quotes in Romania arrive after 3 emails, an NDA and a meeting — and the final price only shows up in a PDF, with no formulas. It’s hard to compare, hard to plan, and almost impossible to build your logistics budget before you’ve already picked the partner.
This article is the exact opposite. You take a successful online store, walk through every step of the logistics flow with us, and see precisely what each action costs. Not generic. Not “starting from €X”. Round numbers, complete formulas, clear assumptions.
At the end you’ll have two numbers you can use immediately: €0.61 — the real cost for pick + pack in a mailer, and €0.80 — the total cost of an order, with absolutely everything included.

Why we chose the mailer scenario
The courier mailer is the most-used packaging format in Romanian ecommerce. It’s fast to handle at pick, efficient in transport (couriers bill by volume and weight) and takes up minimal warehouse space. Over 60% of B2C orders in Romania can be packed in a mailer.
Categories that fit perfectly in a mailer
- Clothing (T-shirts, skirts, lingerie, socks, tights)
- Apparel accessories (belts, scarves, gloves)
- Makeup and beauty (lipsticks, palettes, mascara, small perfumes)
- Skincare (creams, serums, masks)
- Supplements, vitamins, teas
- Books, magazines, stationery
- Fashion jewelry and watches
- Electronics accessories (cables, chargers, headphones, USB)
- Phone cases, screen protectors, smartphone accessories
- Small toys, small plush toys
- Pet accessories (collars, toys, treats)
- Kids’ products (clothing, accessories)
- Small boxes that fit inside larger mailers
- Premium stationery and small gifts
For any of these niches, the calculation below remains valid with minor volume adjustments.
Step by step
Money on what — every cost, explained
Below we walk through every stage of the flow. For each one, we show you what we actually do and how much it costs per order. All prices are in EUR, ex. VAT, at the best tier in the grid.
1
Stock receiving — what happens when your goods arrive
Every unit that reaches our warehouse goes through 6 standardized steps, all logged in the WMS:
- Unloading — from the courier, 40ft container or pre-palletized loads.
- Quantitative and visual check — we compare against your shipping note and report discrepancies before anything enters stock.
- Barcode scanning — we verify the existing code and bind it to its location.
- Real measurement — L × W × H of each SKU, with scale and tape measure, recorded directly in the WMS.
- WMS registration — every unit has a complete digital history, visible to you too in the portal.
- Location assignment — every SKU gets a unique shelf location, mapped in the WMS for fast picking.
All activity appears instantly in your client portal — real-time monitoring, automatic restock recommendations, and a test button you can try anytime, free of charge.

Storage — measured correctly, billed correctly
Most fulfillment companies bill storage “per SKU” or “per pallet” — meaning you pay a fixed amount regardless of whether the product is a perfume vial or a shoebox.
At Fast Fulfill, storage is measured exclusively on the actual volume occupied (m³), and that volume is calculated dynamically:
- At every receiving, the system automatically adds the volume of incoming products.
- At every sale, the system automatically subtracts the volume of shipped products.
- You pay €0.40/m³/day — calculated daily, billed monthly.
Example (50 makeup SKUs ≈ 5 m³):
5 m³ × €0.40/m³/day × 30 days = €60 per month.
That’s €1.20 per SKU per month. Storage cost allocated per order drops below one cent.

3
Picking — preparing the parcel
When your platform receives an order (Shopify, eMAG, WooCommerce, etc.), the order appears automatically in our WMS. From there:
- The operator receives the picking list on a mobile terminal.
- Walks to the exact product location (mapped in the WMS).
- Scans the product, confirms the match with the order.
- Brings the product to the packing station.
€0.34 / order
4
Packing in a mailer
At the packing station, the product goes into a standard mailer. Included in the €0.27/order are:
- The mailer itself (the material).
- Professional sealing (permanent closure, no risk of opening in transit).
- Application of your courier’s AWB label.
- Handover to the courier by the 3:00 PM cut-off — the order ships the same day.
The mailer is not billed separately, and the material is not invoiced on top.

Summary
The total: two numbers worth writing down
Adding up the costs above, the real cost of an order in a mailer looks like this:
| Stage | Cost / order |
|---|---|
| Stock receiving | €0.16 |
| Storage (allocated per order) | ~€0.01 |
| Picking | €0.34 |
| Packing in a mailer | €0.27 |
| All-in total | ~€0.80 |
What it means as a % of revenue
1.14%
For an average basket of €70 and a consistent monthly volume, a fulfillment cost of €0.80/order represents roughly 1.14% of revenue.
Below any international benchmark. For comparison, stores selling via Amazon FBA pay between 10% and 20% of basket value for fulfillment alone.
Public price grid
Prices drop as you grow
All our prices are built on an 8-tier public price grid, separate for each service category — receiving, storage, picking, packing, returns. As your monthly volume grows, you automatically move into better tiers and prices drop across all categories, without you having to do anything.
The grid is the same for every client, visible on the website, with no negotiation and no “premium contract” for a select few. The figures you’ve seen above are from the best tier in the grid — but at lower tiers, the structure stays just as transparent.
Shipping
Couriers: preferential rates, direct contract, COD reimbursement to your account
Shipping isn’t part of the calculation above — because it doesn’t go through our invoices. But it’s still a concrete advantage you get as a Fast Fulfill partner:
- Negotiated preferential rates with Sameday, FAN Courier, DPD, GLS, Cargus, plus UPS, DHL and TNT for international deliveries.
- You sign the contract directly with the courier — you benefit from our rates without being an intermediary in a complicated relationship.
- COD reimbursements go directly to your account, they don’t pass through Fast Fulfill. Your cash flow stays clean.
- Fast Fulfill adds zero margin on shipping. Billing happens exclusively between you and the courier. Fully transparent.
Our default recommendation: Sameday — the best current partnership, excellent rates, native integration with our WMS. But if you prefer another courier or already have a contract in place, we integrate with no friction.
